Late 60’s 3/4 Sized Gibson

This is a bit of a rare bird: a late 60’s 3/4 sized steel string is excellent condition.

Many guitars from this period had this adjustable bridge like this one:

When removed, we can see why this went over like a turd in a punch bowl. It allows for this huge gap between the strings and top, cutting it’s resonance practically in half:

Here we’re cleaning up the slot with the newer Stew Mac saddle slot files:

Now we’re ready to proceed with installing a carbon fiber shim to close the gap.

Here’s Matt taking the time to measure the saddle in it’s original place, then with the saddle all the way down:

A larger chunk of carbon was used to make this angled shim, doing away with the need of the screws. We left the screws none the less, and snugged them down. The audible improvement for this type of bridge is highly recommended, especially on Gibson acoustics.

This guitar also received some fairly heavy fret leveling in the upper frets, and a few random frets throughout the board. This one is now a very special guitar.
